Apiphobic? Are you afraid of BEES?
The stinging truth.
Fear of bees is called apiphobia.
I suffered from an extreme bee and wasp phobia for most of my life. For instance, I went hysterical if trapped in a room with a wasp. I would unleash half the can of hornet killer from the farthest possible distance.
Worse, I once bolted from my car because there was a bee inside ... and couldn't summon the courage to return and unbuckle my toddler from the back seat for a long, excruciating moment. How humiliating!
However, I am now what I would consider CURED.
To find out how, read on.
Fear of bees or bee stings is one of common fears among people. Apiphobia (from Latin apis for "honeybee") or melissophobia (from Greek melissa for "honeybee"), is a fear of bees and a kind of specific phobia.
Bees, wasps, hornets ... my tiny nemesi
Most of my life, including adulthood, I suffered from an inexplicable, irrational fear of bees.
- I have shrieked in absolute terror upon finding myself sharing a moving vehicle with a bee.
- I have closed myself in a small room for hours when confronted with the knowledge that somewhere in my home, a wasp was lurking.
- I have emptied full cans of toxic fume producing wasp spray—indoors—when forced to confront the evil foes.
How does such a phobia take over?
I've long considered that the source of my fear was the story I'd heard but didn't remember myself, of playing outdoors as a very young child and being attacked by a swarm of ground bees.
My brother tried to save me, picking me up and running with me to the house ... and dropping me when the bees unleashed their fury on him.
I'm quite glad I don't remember that day. As far as I could tell, I've just always been afraid of wasps and bees.
Facing fears.
Through techniques I learned from a psychologist who used light hypnosis to help people overcome feelings triggered by certain odors and colors, I "psyched myself out" and overcame my fear of bees on my own.
The final confirmation that the fear had left me ... on September 9, 2007, I was sitting on my front porch. A yellowjacket, one of the more aggressive types of wasps and one more likely to sting with the least amount of provocation, decided to land on my bare arm.
Just years ago, I would have SCREAMED bloody murder and probably would have run into the house crying and vowing to never go outside again until there was a foot of snow on the ground.
Instead, I scowled at the unwelcome visitor and shwooshed it away. I stayed where I sat and thought with great resolve, a person CAN change.
The ability for change is within us all.

Advice
By Jordon
If I had advice to my kid(s) I would say, Just be yourself, and if you have a problem, I would be glad to help. And they don't need to worry about what they say at all.
It doesn't matter at all what you look at, at all. Oh and another thing there probably jellies.
Advice- is like telling how to behave or how to ask out a girl or how to salve a problem.
Advise- is like something to do with the earth.
Piercings.
By Nefer
I don't think the fourteen year old girl that got suspended for having a nose piercing should have been suspended. Since the school allowed "sincerely held religious beliefs" they should have let her wear the piercing since that was part of her religion. Tattoos and piercings are part of how her church people dress so she should be able to wear it at school. The piercing isn't really a distraction; it's kind of like wearing a necklace or ring as a decoration on you. Students should be able to wear body jewelry at school as a way of expressing themselves. It can be a distraction sometimes because other kids might want to know when or where they got it, if it hurt, or something else about it. Having a nose piercing shouldn't be against the school rules.
When students have a nose piercings it doesn't change how they do their work or how they think. If some teachers have it they still teach the same. Nothing changes with a piercing except your look. Piercings aren't necessary but they're not much of a distraction. The girl that suspended shouldn't have gotten punished for her religious belief.
PIERCINGS good or BAD
By Jacob
I say that it's not a really big distraction. Girls and some boys wear ear piercings all the time. What's the difference between an ear piece and a nose piece? In this case the school is just being a pain. They want to be very picky about everything that goes on at the school.
Piercings are not a big deal. When people wear nose piercings it's just to wear them. They aren't trying to worship Satan. It's just a stupid nose piercing don't cry about it.
Piercings
By Isai
What the school did wasn't the right thing to do because everybody has the right to express themselves. Suspending someone for having a nose piercing is really stupid. A lot of people have nose piercings. Everyone should be allowed to have piercings were ever they want if they want to. Like the other day I saw some dude up town with nipple piercing and I thought he was really weird and everyone was looking at him like OMG that's gross.
Piercings are just piercings people usually have them on there ears and wats the big diference if there on your nose. Mabye the principle of that school didn't like the nose piercing bucause shes to old. People like different so maybe is because she doesn't have one and she was jeleus.

I think ridiculous that a 14 year old girl got expelled for having a nose piercing. People should be able to wear piercings if they want to including kids that attend school. They might get other students attention for a while but it will get old soon. I know because a couple of students here have gotten piercings here and people are like commenting on it like the whole day and by the end of the week no one is noticing it anymore.
Students should be allowed to express them self through body art. It nothing bad I mean seriously even some teachers have pierces even tattoos. I wouldn't get why students aren't allowed to have piercings.

I think every human being should be able to express themselves through whatever they feel like is meaningful towards them. It shouldn't matter what other people think just because of their beliefs. If it offends them, they just shouldn't look at the person. You are in charge of your own life, no one but your parents should have a say in what you do or not do. I know schools have rules, and I respect some of the rules, but some are just ridiculous. Piercings should definitely not be a problem, as long as ones in inappropriate places are covered.
To me, distractions in school are: when someone acts ridiculously, when someone dresses ridiculously, when someone doesn't necessarily get dressed, when someone dresses as if they don't know how, and maybe what accessories they wear. Piercings can possibly be a distraction if: They look like a tribal piercing, when they're really, really big, and if they're in a place you're not supposed to show at school. A nose piercing can be distracting if it's like the ones they put on bulls through each nostril, but if it's just a stub, it should definitely not be a problem. I'm very glad that The American Civil Liberties Union is suing the school because it is absolutely ridiculous that they would suspend a girl for having a nose piercing. It's not like she's causing violence or being naked. She just has a hole in her nose, with a little fake diamond on it. What's wrong with that?
I really hope the school loses in the lawsuit because they have no right to tell a kid what or what not to wear other than an outfit that is appropriate for school. Especially if it's an accessory that's a form of expression.
Piercings

Body art! What a creative thing. I think schools shouldn't expel people for body art. A lot of people make a big deal out of it but I think if it's not affecting them or harming ten then I think they shouldn't make a big deal and freak out over it.
Yes there is a point where it gets too distracting like having a lot of your body pierced. I think the school shouldn't have anything to do with piercings unless it gets way out of control.
I think that kids should be able to express themselves through body art. Everyone needs some way to show who they really are. Having different ways to express yourself is good because if you don't express yourself then you never get to show you're not afraid to be your own person.
So express yourself be your own person and don't let anyone tell you that you can't do something that make you you. Don't go overboard either and don't get a piercing just because someone else does get one because you want to.

I don't think that kids should be suspended from school because it is not that of a big deal. They could just tell them to take them off or call their parents. I think they exaggerated when they suspended the girl for using a nose piercing during a school day. I also think it's the parents that get to decide whether they could have or use the piercings, not the teachers or school staff.
I don't think it's a distraction because students usually look or ask about the piercings during recess or after school. And not everybody has piercings has or wears piercings. A lot of my friends have piercings and we don't get distracted. Gauges and piercings aren't a distraction because that is in style and they see that mostly everyday.

I don't think that kids should be suspended from school just because they have piercings. And I also think that it's the parent's privilege to decide whether they use piercings or not. The school's teachers should just tell the kids to take their piercings off at school.
I don't think it's a distraction because it's in style and kids are used to see them mostly every day. And kids these days don't pay much attention to that. Most of the kids that have pierced their nose it's because their trying to be cool or show off their piercings.

You should NOT be judged by what piercings you have. I mean, its JUST A PIERCING! I mean really, its not like it means they CUT THEMSELVES! Its not like they have a gun or anything…!!

Middle school and high school are some fun years of your life. High school isn't as restricted as middle school is, so high school is much more fun. You're a lot freer in high school, so I think you should definitely take advantage and have as much fun as possible, but still make sure to do your work.
I think Mr. Novikoff's advice should apply to those levels too, but not as strongly. In college, you're freer than in any other grade, so I think his advice should mostly apply to that. But, it should still be used in a smaller way for high school, and an even smaller way for middle school.
I would tell younger kids to use Mr. Novikoff's for middle school and high school because if you don't, I'm sure you'll get picked on in some way. What works for me is that I take any chance for fun that I'm interested in, but I definitely focus on school first. I also stay as updated on things as possible because for one: I'm interested in new happenings, and two: So I can tell everyone about it. A confusing thing though is that every new generation is smarter and more updated than the last, so I'm sure all the younger kids will be like me while I'm in high school when they're in middle school. But you're only young like this once, so why waste these years not having fun?
What didn't work for me is not taking all the chances for fun I had. Missing out on something small and worthless may not seem like a big deal, but when it's an opportunity to have fun and try new things, why not go? It makes me mad that I missed out on some of these things, but it made me aware that in high school I will definitely try not to.
I think life shouldn't be about what job you'll end up with and how much money you'll make, but with how much fun you have between then and now.

My advice for students that just started middle school is to make the most of it because it is really fun. If you don't participate in any school activities though it will be really boring. My first year I was kind of nervous because I didn't know what to except. I was lucky though because my sister was in middle school at the time so she helped me out.
Of course it was a little different then elementary but just because you don't have the same teacher the whole day, which know that I think about it I would hate to have the same teacher the whole day like I did before. The other thing that is different in middle school is that you have dances and pep rallies which are really fun. If you are ineligible though you cannot attend the pep rallies or dances so it's good to keep up with all work that is assigned. Other than the switching classes and the activities we do middle school, middle school is kind of the same as elementary.

There are a lot of kids that get bullied for any different reasons it's for their sexual orientation or because their skin color and anything in-between. Some kids just try to ignore what other kids say however this might be harder for them just to forget or not think about these things. It's not always good to just ignore things people say if it is something really serious. For example if a kid is being mean to us and makes rude comments about your skin color and it happens repeatedly you should try to get help from an adult. That is the best thing you can do because if you don't and keep things to yourself things between you and that bully could get worse and turn physical.
Some advice would be to not tolerate being bullied or be beaten up. Never be afraid to get help from an adult because if you do get help things on your life will improve. Sometimes when kids get bullied they get depressed and sometimes even runaway or commit suicide if things get really bad. Running away doesn't make things better because you never who the type of people you are around and what they are capable of. If you are ever thinking about suicide think about if you go through with it all the things you're going to miss out on.
The advice that Mr. Novikoff gives to us is good and helpful advice. Maybe not all of his advice is going to be helpful to everyone but I'm sure that there a lot of kids who are being bullied because of their sexual orientation. Mr. Novikoff has probably inspired a lot of kids and made them stronger.

I think that cyber- bulling is wrong. Cyber- bulling is mean; people are sick in tired of this. More and more people die every day because of this. However is doing this is wrong and sick. It is wrong to do that to people, and the people how do this don't know how it fills like. And how ever does that should be put in jail, for a while. If you have something negative to say don't say anything at all.

Banning Of Books
By Jacob
I think that books should only be banned if the teacher thinks that the class is not mature enough to handle the sexual content, rascist slurs, and violence then they should just make sure that that anyone that cant handle it doesn't read it. If the book is violent its pretty much written about how the real world acts. If it is overlly sexuall then its nonrealistic and unneeded. I havn't read any of the banned books on the list.
PEACE
By Emma
I think that peace means harmony between people and things. Everybody getting along with each other and no fights or anything is peace between people.
The things we could do to have peace in our school is make sure everybody gets along. Everybody pretty much gets along in our school but in other schools there is a lot of bullying. To have peace in our class we can all cooperate. We shouldn't talk when we're not supposed to. And we should only do things the teacher tells us to.
To keep peace in your family you can try not to get into arguments. You can do nice things for your brothers and sisters. You can spend time with your family and play games or watch a movie. There are a lot of things you can do to keep peace in your family, at school and anywhere else. So try to keep peace with people.
The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton

I think that this book is a really good book. It is a good book, and a good lesion. Basically, there are too gangs that hate each another, because they look different.
At first the Greasers thought that they had it hard, but no the other gang (The socs) had it hard. The Greasers had it all easy. They can run away all they wont from there problems, but the socs can't they have it bad real bad.
READ AND FIND it all OUT.

I wouldn't like to go to the Manhattan Free School. I'm sure it would be fun to do whatever you wanted to but I want to have an education. It is also too expensive to go there especially if you're not even learning anything. I do agree that with freedom comes responsibility. People need to be responsible for their own actions.
Lupita Cruise
To my beloved family,
Since you are this by this time you should know that I am dead. Since I love you all so dearly I thought you should know how interesting and adventures my life was. To start off I would like to say never forget how much I care for you all. I would like to be buried by my brother in my hometown.
I grew up in the really small town of Longer Pines almost my whole life. I loved living there, it was a place where everyone knew each other and most people got along. On the street I lived I knew all the people on my block. I loved it because I felt really safe as where in a big city you might not know the people you live around. Since you don't know who lives around you it is a lot less likely to know who they are. However in my case I felt safe because I knew almost everyone. Since everyone knew each other there was almost always a barbecue or some sort of celebration during the week. The partied got bigger and better depending by what the importance of the party was.
As an adult lived Miami and traveled almost every other weekend. After graduating from my local High School I attended college and started my own photography business in the Los Angeles, California. My business was a very successful one and that's where I met your grandpa Steve. He came in one day so get a family portrait taken. Ever since then we were inseparable. After more than two years of dating he proposed to me. We got married March thirteenth twenty-thirty and lived very happily together. In all those years we had three kids Victor, Natalie and Crystal.
Always remember how much I care about you all and will miss you!
My Opinion on Banned Books
By Dylan
My opinion on band book week is….. I think there should be some band books at school like number seventy-eight. There are books that should be band because kids that are young shouldn't be reading the book even if they know what it means because parents don't what the kids to know what it means .Books like Harry Potter shouldn't be banned because it helps develop peoples reading. Books that help people read and develop vocabulary still shouldn't be banned but they still are. Books that don't help or have nasty lings in them or teach people bad items or even show you should be banded.
Books that I even read that have adventure and vocabulary skills for me when I was littler were banned. The books I read on the list were Ghost Bumps, Junie Bee Jones and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. These books improved my reading because of the descriptive words. I also read Captain Underpants but I understand why it's banned. Some books you don't understand why they were banned but you can understand why the books were banned.

If I was in ''Free School'' I would be good. For a little while I would do whatever I want for a little while and then I would get bored and start doing work. I am self-motivated. Some times when ever I can't do something I push myself to actually doing it and then I figure out that I could do it after all. I think that ''the flip side of freedom is responsibility'' means that if you have a lot of freedom you still have to be responsible and do what needs to be done.
I think that for me learning would be easier if the teacher would make learning really fun. Like adding an activity that is fun but it teaches you what you need to learn at the same time.
Peace
By Samantha
To me peace means to be calm caring and generous. Peace can also mean like an agreement between two or more things. My meaning of peace is just like hello or what's up.
In homes with family peace can mean many different things. Things like I the family the kids or parents won't fight and they will talk problems out and not just demand it their own way. Say one member of your family is sick someone else in your family should be nice and help them if they need something.
When a new kid comes what the first thing you think? Most kids think whoa new kid must be a weird kid. Well if you get a new kid don't judge them until you get to know them. Be nice and introduce yourself and help them out if you can. Also kids in class should cooperate in class, pay attention and not disrespect the teacher.
In school it may be tempting to bully some kids, but it doesn't set a good example and shows everyone you're just a mean person. Older kids should help young kids if they get lost or just simply cross the street. If someone drops there book help them pick them up and not just laugh at them.
To me peace means hi hello. I also think k the meaning of peace is a kind, caring helpful, and an up tempo kind of person with a good attitude. Peace to me is just like common since and a good way to say hi or even just to mess around.

I think that they should serve 15 years in the State prison if they are over 18. If you are not over 18 then it should be 15 years in juvenile hall. If they turn 18 then the person or persons will be transported to a state prison.
To me the bully would have committed a second degree murder. Unless the person that committed suicide started the fight with words, then the so called bully had the right to defend himself. They still should have some fault but the suicide person is to blame.
Ways to prevent the bullying is to tell kids to stand up for themselves and to make friends don't break them. Go to teachers. The principle or a police officer would be fine to.
Yes, education is enough. If you know what to do then you're all good. The problem would be solved if you knew how to stop it
Cyber bullying
By: Dylan Kandler
I think that the punishment for Cyber Bulling should be a couple years in jail depending on what the suspect did. Examples of cyber bulling could lead up to invasion of privacy, harassment, attempt to comet murder, ECT.
I think that the bulling to blame should be half-and-half (50 percent to 50percent). Why? Is because they could of already been suicidal and push them or even not suicidal and push that Pearson to were that person they bullied turn suicidal. The bully is going to be, punished with the laws they broke but not any other thing and if there is more than one bully, they should all get the same convictions.
How cyber bulling can be stopped is if everyone has protection and their parents "glance" at the screen. If some people do this most of the cyber bulling will stop. Another way if kids, teens and adults eighteen through twenty will confese to be bulling or stop being dump and bully others. Also, they could teach kids in every school in the world.
I don't think education is enough… Why is because most schools don't have the capability to teach there students or they do have the capability but don't teach the kids about bulling and cyber bulling or any type of bulling. Most schools do teach their kids about bulling but not so often. They teach them every so often.
Bullying
By Isai
I think that to stop cyber bulling we could teach kids about it. Then we can make the laws really strict about cyber bulling. If you make someone kill themselves by bulling someone you should be charged with a second degree murder. If a kid cyber bullies someone maybe transfer the kid to another school .
Someone can talk straight to the bully and tell him or her what can happen if they keep bulling the kid. And they should give the bully detention and double it every time they have a problem with him.

The cases of suicides that have happened recently are terrible and depressing. It makes me mad that people would actually do such a thing and bully people about what they can't change. Judgmental people make me mad. I think the punishment should be handled seriously and they should be filed as a hate crime and they should definitely go to jail. If there is invasion of privacy also, they should go to jail longer. And if it's just invasion of privacy, they should still go to jail.
Bullying is a bad thing overall, but if someone bullies someone hardcore enough to make them kill or want to kill themselves, it should be considered a crime. I guess no one would ever know if it was the bullying that really caused the suicide, but we should just assume that because I'm sure bullying is/was a big part of it. I think a good idea is asking a friend of the person who committed suicide and see if he/she ever talked about it to them.
In my opinion, I think the bullying is a very large part to blame, unless there is known abuse at home or the person who killed him/herself was just depressed. Also, if there is a note that the person left, that should leave all the answers.
I THINK the bully/bullies should have almost full responsibility for it if the death was caused because of the bullying or if it was even just a part of it. Also IF there is evidence, and witnesses. I think that because being bullied is far worse than what we imagine it to be. It makes people self-conscious, and IT MAKES YOU HATE YOURSELF. When there are so many people around you that make it seem like they hate you, you begin to hate yourself. And everyone knows if you hate yourself, you don't really see worth in your life, and you don't want to live and deal with the agony OF IT ALL.
There are many ways you can help prevent cyber bullying. I don't think just education is enough, but it is definitely very, very helpful. When you make people (mostly young kids) aware of what is happening, why it's wrong, and not to do it because of the consequences and the cruelness, I think it helps a lot. I'm not saying every cyber bully and future cyber bully will stop, but I'm sure it will lessen the number of them. I think awareness is the best thing we can do.

We should teach kids to tolerate homosexuals, as they are no different than heterosexuals or bisexuals. Why do gays get all the crap, and not bisexuals? I don't understand, but also, why do Gays not make fun of heterosexuals? Because they are TOLERANT! Why aren't we?
Make homosexual toleration classes. Teach about tolerating homosexuals. We already have bullying classes in some schools, but not why all schools? Where are the cyberbullying classes? We should get more education on the matter. That is what I think.

I don't know how that situation should be handled. The bully should get punished in some way but probably not the death sentence because they probably didn't know what they were doing. To prevent cyber bullying teachers and parents could teach kids more about it. They could also watch kids more carefully. Education can be enough for some people but other people are just mean or come from a not so good family.
Cyber bully
By Jon K.
I think the punishment for cyber bullying should be taken seriously. Students should know by now what it can cause! They've heard about the suicides that it caused! If they are cyber bullying hook them up to a lie detector and find out! But don't ask them about something embarrassing. Then they can sue. But at the beginning of the year tell them that you will do that!
If they know it could cause suicide charge them with murder! So what if they're homo? Hate the sin not the person! Yes I think homo is wrong, BUT I WOULDN"T KILL THEM!!! If they don't know that it can cause suicide whose fault is that!? The school's charge the school with murder! This is kind of important isn't it!? Don't put web cams on the computers! And find out who they are on face book or twitter and stop them!
And to those who knew they would kill themselves what's with you people!? I bet the majority of you who do it just to kill them are probably real Muslims and are doing that to Christians or Jews I'm probably wrong, but have you read the Qur'an? It says to kill them! But don't hate the person who is Muslim hate the Qur'an! Try to turn them don't kill them. Don't have a book burning! Don't do something you'll regret!
Cyberbullying Assignment
By Jesus
People who are cyberbullying another person and make the person commit suicide should at least be sent to jail for at least ten years. It is mostly the bully's fault because the bully bullied that person to the point that they committed suicide because they were being humiliated or the bully invaded their privacy. The bully should be more responsible and mature instead of bullying somebody of their race or if they are gay or lesbian. Cyberbullying could be prevented by making programs and showing people why it is bad for one person to bully another person. I think there should be more classes and programs about bullying/cyberbullying another person.

Would you like a school like this? What would you do all day? Are you self-motivated? Do you agree that "the flip side of freedom is responsibility"? What balance of freedom and structure do you think would benefit you best for the purposes of learning?
I would like a school like this, but I'd call for breaks a lot. I'm not very self-motivated, and I agree the flip side of freedom is responsibility. I think the balance would be a teacher and my mom nagging me to do better.
Free school
By: Jordon
I think that a free school isn't a school at all. I think school is a great place to learn, not to mess around, that's what breaks are for, and what weekends, and holidays are for. If we had a chance to change I won't change. But if we all ready had a school like that it will be fine I guess. If we had a school like that we would not learn anything.
WE SHOULD NOT HAVE A FREE SCHOOL.
Free School(s) are illegal
Don't even think about it at all, not cool.
Free school is not a school at all
Jordon’s Peace
By Jordon
Peace means cool, cool means that people like you as a friend and you like them back as a friend. When I look at pretzels I thing of peace, because it has the symbol of peace. I for one like peace, because I'm peaceful. I like to see people who are willing to talk to me. That makes me happy.
Next, School, do not be a bully, (no one likes it not even you). And if you have trash throw it away. Pick up after you're self if you leave trash everywhere around you. When you are in class raise your hand to get called on and if you are outside and a teacher or adult on campus calls you listen to them but only if they work or sub there.
Finally Get along with your friend(s) or relative(s) in your family. What I mean about that is your kindness and or loving for one another. For example you should not be mean to your friends. And another example in your family you should care for one another.
Class peace
By Christian Michael
The way I think the way we can get class peace is by raising our hand. I think by raising your hand it will make peace because people will not get in trouble. If students don't get in trouble there won't any yelling and we will have peace.
SCHOOL PEACE
To get school peace I think the students should lessen to the teachers and no one would get in trouble. Another way to make school is to not get in fights. The way I can make school peace is to do my work.
FAMILY PEACE
The way can make family peace is to lessen to my parents. My parents can make family peace by getting along. Another way to make peace is to not use foul words.
Peace
By – Dylan
What
peace means in my own words is that everyone can get along. What peace means on Dictionary.com is," an agreement or treaty between warring or antagonistic nations, groups, etc., to end hostilities and abstain from further fighting or antagonism: the Peace of Ryswick." What peace looks like is when no one is fighting and when everyone gets along even if people hate each other. What peace feels like? Peace feels like a rollercoaster, there is mostly peace all the time, just like life, when something is not right there is no peace. An example is before the war in Iraqi there was peace there, when the American solders invaded there was no peace for the Iranians. Peace sounds like a silent day or night when you cannot hear anything.
The meaning of Peace to me!!
By Lupita
Peace in my mind is when you have tranquility and unity with the people around you. The people around you might not always be people you know but that's okay. Different people have different views and thought of what peace means and not all people agree with each other.
Peace is when there is a group of people and each one of them is in some way different but the differences don't matter to them and they can get along. Peace is something that everyone should work on. You know that things are peaceful when you don't hear name calling and rudeness between kids and adults. There are many names people of different races and ethnicities call each other. Like beaner, cracker, wetback, rednecks, hillbillies, Negros, Afro-American and then the N word. The world would be a lot more peaceful and a lot less violent without these words.
Of course like at all school things around campus are not always peaceful. It isn't really one person's fault it has to do with everyone and who they hang out with. Maybe if one person stops hanging out with their normal friends and hangs out with different people, then maybe their old friends would be offended. Something that might make our school more peaceful would be maybe on certain days have the kids sit at different tables than they are used to. Another idea would be mixing up the classes like P.E. Usually people that are in the same class tend to hang out together at break and lunch. However that is not the case with my friends and me. In my opinion that is a good thing because it means we don't care about differences we have. For example there are three seventh graders in our group of friends and six eighth graders. Things like this might make our school more peaceful and more united.
At my house things are usually peaceful but not always. Sometimes we might fight with one another but then we get over it pretty quick. Maybe if we actually started doing things as a family things might be more peaceful. For example if we maybe ate dinner at the table together we might make us be able to talk to one another better. There are a lot of things that our family can do to be more unfied.
Magie’s Peace
By Magie
Peace means that people are nice to each other and care for each other. It also means that people aren't killing each other or yelling at each other. When people are being peaceful you will hear every one getting along and communicating. That is what peace means to me.
To make our school and class more peaceful I think we should stop criticizing each other. We shouldn't criticize of what they wear or what they look like. Probably if we would stop criticizing there wouldn't be fights. Everyone would be friends and they wouldn't fight.
To make a family peaceful I think we shouldn't argue with each other. When we're mad at each other we should try to fix things by being calm. Also when my parents tell me to do something or tell me not to do something I should listen. I shouldn't argue because that wouldn't be peaceful. That's what I think we should do to make my family peaceful.
Peace
Free Schools
By Lupita
If I had the opportunity to go to a "free school" I would not like to attend there. It would definitely be an interesting experience to go to a school where you do not have to do what you are told but that would get old and you wouldn't learn.
The idea of this school is very different and many kids would jump at the chance to go to a "free school". However just like there are people who really like this idea there are also people who disagree. One reason someone might disagree would be that their child isn't learning during the day like they are suppose to be.
I would probably do my work during the afternoon if I attended a "free school". I would choose not to do my work in the morning because it would be early and it wouldn't be a good time for me. It would be nice if the more important classes were in the afternoon like math science and English. For the beginning of the day I would have classes like Spanish, music, art if we had art and P.E. This might motivate kids to have more energy toward their classes if they choose to do their work.
I don't think I am very self motivated because it takes me a long to get to work unless it is a topic that I really like. If I have a class like math that I have homework in it will take me a while to sit down and actually do my work. However when I actually get busy and do my work it is easy and it doesn't take me very long to finish my assignment. Not only that but I get distracted very easily and then I totally forget about the work I'm supposed to be doing. If I really want to do an assignment it isn't very hard I can do it but it takes some time.
I agree that "the flipside of freedom is responsibility because it's true. When someone give you freedom you do what you think is best because you don't want to mess up and lose the freedom you have. So when you don't have freedom you feel like why does it matter and don't do what you are told. For some people having freedom is a good thing and for others it's not a good thing. There are certain people who can't handle freedom because then they don't know what to do. Those people might feel lost and confused with more freedom.
Schools should have structure but they school also have some freedom for the students. Learning is really important for kids to learn but learning doesn't have to be so boring all the times. It might be hard for teachers to think of creative was to do certain activities. If teachers made certain activates more fun students might work harder on their work and take things more serious. Since almost all activities are done by one person and usually with pen and paper kids get bored. For example if the teacher where to let their students work in groups and different things the kids might act better.

Jordon
1996-2050
Jordon was born in 29 Palms, as you all know that over 45 years ago Jordon, when he was little his dad was really mean and it wasn't fun for him at all. Basically his dad beat him sever to death Then one day when he was 10 years old, his mom got him, his brother Dylan, and his sister Krislyn out of this situation. When he about was three he walked right in front of his dad playing games, his dad then threw him at a coffee table and broke his head.
As he was growing up, in his teens people were mean to him they called him names. In the rest of his life, he was a great busyness worker, then he retired when he was about 50 years old.
Nora Lautner
1997-6000
Hey, I'm Nora. I was born on the same day as my dad on January 6, 1997 in California. My parents are Said and Saloua. I have two brothers; one older and one younger. The oldest is Adam, and the youngest is Bilal. Both my parents were born in Morocco which I think is awesome. I am married to Taylor Lautner and I am very happy. I have four adopted children: Mariah, Zachariah, Amber, and Alexandria. (I don't necessarily remember my grandchildren's names.) I hope that I live to at least 4,003 years old.
During all my amazing years of living, I faced and lived through over twelve natural disasters and over thirty-seven so called "end of the world" times. I've gone sky diving, deep sea diving, I've found lost treasures in the Titanic, I've gone to Mars, I've gone indoor sky diving, I've gone bunji-jumping, I've acted in about seven different Star Wars films, I've met an alien…well actually three, I've been to the core of the earth, I've been inside of all the ancient Egyptian pyramids, I've been inside of all the ancient Aztec and Incan empire pyramid thingies, I've broken over 123 world records (including the oldest living person ever), and of course there are many more awesome things have happened in my ecstatic life.
I, Nora Lautner, hereby claim that my husband and me have ALL of our belongings be cremated with us in a giant bonfire and have the ashes dropped in all the volcanoes in Hawaii and Japan and in the oceans surrounding in Morocco. Some of the extra ashes I have decided will be eaten by sharks, bears, monkeys, camels, and beluga whales. The other extra ashes will be made into all types of jewelry, shoes, clothing, and will be given to all my living relatives.
My opinion about a “Free” school
By Nora
If I were able to choose to be in a "free" school, I'd probably take the invitation, but just to experience, not permanently. I know I'd definitely like it because the idea that the students choose whether to do something or not really interests me and it seems like a great thing to experience. I'm sure you become much more responsible in that school than in a regular school because in regular school you have teachers pushing you to do things, while in this one you have a choice whether to or not.
If I were in this school, I'd probably play most of the day to tell you the truth, but some days I'm sure I would do some sort of work. I'm very self-motivated so I would definitely be thinking about how doing work will benefit me and how doing none would…and doing work has a better outcome of course.
I do agree that "the flip side of freedom is responsibility" because when you never learn to be responsible, no one will ever give you freedom, but when you become responsible, you're allowed much more freedom. Also when you're exposed to freedom more than usual, you tend to get to be more responsible.
In my opinion, there should be more structure than freedom because with too much freedom, young kids wouldn't learn as thoroughly as they should learn. I think older kids should have more freedom than the younger ones because at least the older ones realize what's happening to their future when they don't do work and learn. But there should definitely be freedom because having freedom gives you responsibility, and you're GOING to need to be responsible in your future.
But overall, I think the kids that are going to this school aren't going to be as ahead on their studies as kids that are going to regular schools. And a bad thing is they probably won't exceed their standards for college. I think this school should just be for middle school/ junior high and high school students rather than intermediate and young grades. But, I really think this is a good idea.

Jesus C. 1992-2010
Funeral services for Jesus C. will be this Saturday from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. Jesus was found dead last Tuesday in Japan, Tokyo. Jesus was attacked by a penguin when he took his family to a zoo in Japan. Witnesses said Jesus was feeding one of the penguins then the penguin jumped over the fence and attacked Jesus. We interviewed Jesus' sister and she said this, "I tried to pull the penguin off him but the penguin was too strong.''
Jesus will be buried in his home town Los Angeles. Jesus made a will and it said, ''I leave my house and belongings to my family. I leave all my money to my big brother Junior'' We asked the mother of Jesus how she felt of the death of her son and this is what her answer was, "I don't really care about him. I'm just going to go to Las Vegas and spend all my money.''

Mauled by a chinchilla
By Jon K
Died June 7, 2095, he was the only person on earth to have taught a cat to operate a chainsaw. The cat's name was Mr.Jibblets. He never married. He was born in gurgle gurgle Pine, C.A. He was mauled by a chinchilla. The small squirrel like animal was as to orange, as red is to a bull.
Many animal control officers tried to subdue the chinchilla. Funeral services will be held for Jon and the officers whose remains could not be identified will be held this Monday at GameStop. His little brother will not be attending because he will be celebrating his older brother's death. The chinchilla was hunted and killed last night at 12:00am.
As it turns out this particular chinchilla was genetically engineered to make mutant hedgehogs. And the hedgehogs will be invading the underground city of the mole people. This is exactly how every other member of his family died. (That's older than him anyway.)
Banding Books
By Karlie
In my options banding books is really stupid. But it also depends on the book like if it is about romance then it should be in a children library. But if it is in a section of adult's book then kid shouldn't be reading them. But some adults like to read that stuff.
Now but some books shouldn't be even read. Now if you at the list of books you will no exactly what I'm talking about. Now that is my option on banding books.
Dead Guy

When he wasn't working in the reserves or for DWP he Snowboarded, wakeboarded, and rode dirt bikes. He raced Motorcycles all his life. He also was on the High school snowboarding team. His uncle took him wake boarding whenever he could. Jacob liked to hunt birds and other animals, he enjoed working at rodeos and on his family ranch.
Services will be held in Monache meadows at deer camp for cremation and spread around the Owems Valley. Only family and friends allowed at services.
Banned Books
If I could choose if some books were banned, I would ban all atheist books! Evolution has been proven wrong time and time again. If they can ban the Bible they can ban atheism! People can come to completely opposite conclusion. An example being that a cow is giving birth, the calf is coming out feet first, a farmer is helping the cow and a guy from the city stops by. The guy asks the farmer: How fast do you think that calf was going when he ran into the cow?
If the world is really billions of years old do you know what you're saying? This picture says it all. No sensible person should believe that. I you're going to use the grand canyon as proof for evolution look up the hydro plate theory or watch the Creation series on the NRB network, Tuesdays at nine. You know that skeleton that people say is the missing link, Lucy? They only found a tooth… of a pig! If anything the bible should have full immunity to being banned.

I've read some of the books on the list of banned books and I don't think there's anything wrong with them to make them be banned. Most middle school students are mature enough to read all of the books on the banned books list and, the ones that aren't should know they aren't mature and not read those books.
I don't think that schools should ban books. Students should be able to read all kinds of books. Some books can teach us lessons like Speak, by Laurie Halse Anderson and Cut, by Patricia McCormick. Those books say that when you're having problems with yourself or someone else you should tell somebody about it because maybe they can help. Other books like the Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park, the Anastasia series by Lois Lowry
and, the Alice series by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor are just about girls' lives. These are some of the books I've read on the banned book list.
Books shouldn't be banned, people should just know what they're mature enough to read and what not to read. Banned book week shouldn't even exist because I bet the students that arent allowed to read those books would like to read at least some of them.

I don't think books should be banned from schools and public libraries unless it's an inappropriate book. All books bring knowledge but some there is too much knowledge. I think that books shouldn't be banned because people need as much knowledge they can get and people should know that is just a book and don't let it influence you too much.
I think books shouldn't be banned from public libraries and schools. Books are very useful so everyone. Every time you read a book you learn something new. People who are ignorant about books are really missing out. Books really helpful because no matter what you learn something.
Yes I can see why people would want to ban certain books because of what knowledge they hold. Well maybe so people would want to read such things. Kids should just know that a there age there are certain things they should read and certain things they shouldn't.
Books shouldn't be banned people should just be smart enough not to read certain thing and take thing in the wrong way. Everyone should know not to take everything in a book serious and let it affect their lives.
The Outsiders, by S.E Hinton
By: Jordon
I think that this book is a really good book. It is a good book, and a good lesion. Basically, there are too gangs that hate each another, because they look different.
At first the Greasers thought that they had it hard, but no the other gang (The socs) had it hard. The Greasers had it all easy. They can run away all they wont from there problems, but the socs can't they have it bad real bad.
READ AND FIND it all OUT.
Books should get banned from schools
By Isai
I think that no books should be banned because books are good. When some people don't like book and they wanted banned from schools maybe is because they don't like it. Another reason why they don't like that book might be because of their reason why they don't like it might be religion.

I don't think that books should be banned from schools or libraries unless they are really bad like number 78 on the list probably is. I don't think that books should be banned from school or libraries because there are some people that like them and that wanna read them. People shouldn't ban books just because they don't like them. I have only read one series of books off the list. It was the Dark materials books I read two out of the series. They were pretty good and they should not be banned.
BANNED BOOKS
by Lupita Orozco
This week is "Banned Book Week" and the purpose of it is to try to get books banned from county libraries and school libraries. There is a list of one hundred books that have been banned from school and libraries. I don't agree with all the books on the banned list because I have read a couple of them. I don't agree that those books be banned because when I read them I didn't think that they were all that bad. For example "Speak" which I did read not all that long ago and it was a really good book. In Katherine Schulten's blog she wrote that certain people thought Laurie Halse Andersons book "Speak" was supposedly "softly pornographic". I do not agree with that at all, that book was very appropriate.
In our English class we read an expert of the book "I know why the caged bird sings" by Maya Angelou. I'm not sure why this book is banned but I think that it shouldn't because from what we read it was a good book. I thought it was nice how Mrs. Flowers took time to pay attention to Marguerite. It's weird how it is banned in some school and it is in our English test books. That just goes to show how differently all people think about what is appropriate and what isn't. I think that people should give everyone the option to read everything.
Banned book week?
By Angela
I never know that there was a banned book week until my teacher told me. Band book week in my opinion is not necessary. Kids know what they can handle to read and what they can't. For example when kids are in first and second grade are they going to get attracted to a thick chapter book or are they going to get attracted to picture books. I remember when I was in that grade level I would always go see the picture book about princesses or animals. Then as I got older I got bored of those picture book and started looking at chapter book about ice skating and stuff like that. From there I just started reading more and more chapter books.
I looked through the band book week list and I read a couple of those book and I liked then a lot. A lot of the books in that list looked interesting I asked my teacher if he had any of them, which he did. One of the books on my list was The Lovely Bones which my teacher had and is letting my borrow it. So far it is a really good book and I am looking forwarding to reading other books from the banded book week list.
I also think that there is no need for the band book week because kids know what they should read and what they shouldn't. My parents don't really care what I read as long as I read. My mom doesn't really enjoy reading and my dad reads sometimes, he reads stories about the future and space. When I was younger he used to tell me about the books that he read and I would be interested. Well that's my opinion about banned book week.

My Opinion about Banned Books
By Nora
Many adults think that kids aren't mature enough to read certain books. What they don't know is recent generations of kids are much, much more mature than they were when they were young. I would think that all kids above the age of 10, maybe even a bit younger, know about things they shouldn't know about yet. I'm sure adults these days will never understand that because they still believe their kids are "innocent."
I definitely still believe some books should be banned from certain grade levels, but they should NOT be banned from schools. Older grade levels (middle school) should be able to read whatever they want because I think that SOME of the kids in middle school these days are mature enough and understand almost everything high school students do. And some books on the list of banned books shouldn't even be considered being band because they're very good books for middle school students and they're not even that bad at all. Whoever decided to have banned book week is ridiculous because students should be free to read whatever they want if they feel they're mature enough to handle it. Parents shouldn't control what their kids read either.
Another reason I don't think books should be banned is because books have a great deal of information that kids can learn from even if they're not meant to be taught at schools or even supposed to teach you anything. Different people get different information out of books. Some people may not even learn anything, and some people might learn something that'd change their life. I know I've learned and enjoyed many books that are on the banned books list and it makes me mad they're banning them. Books like that definitely matured me a lot, and I'm sure the same would happen for other kids. I'm not sure why adults make such a big deal out of books that students would probably enjoy. Just because they might not like them doesn't mean younger people won't.
In my opinion, there shouldn't even be a banned book week. But when I'm an adult and all the adults that are alive now are dead, I might be able to delete it from existence. Then all good books will be able to live happily ever after.

When I think of the word peace it reminds me of family, friendship, school and happiness. To me it also means no wars or fighting and being nice to everyone and not being violent. The word peace sounds like Paz which means peace in Spanish. It could also mean bye. When I see the peace sign it reminds me of a circle.
To keep peace with my friends and I can hangout more and we could try to make new friends. In school we can stop the bullying. People also shouldn't criticize others for how they look or dress. Sometimes peace also reminds me of helping the earth and being calm. Some ways we can help the earth is by recycling and reusing things.
To keep peace in my family I think we shouldn't argue. We could also have more family reunions. We could also treat everybody in the family equally. For example I could help my parents around the house.

When I think of the word peace it reminds me of happiness and people being nice to each other. And also it reminds me when people say peace instead of bye. The sign of peace it reminds me of a circle with the letter A in the middle.
Io make the school more peaceful everyone should be nice at each other and be friendly. People should not criticize how other people look or what their wearing. For the class to be more peaceful kids should work together as a group and be nice too. Everyone should help each other. And they shouldn't fight or argue.
To keep peace in my family everyone should be happy. And also everyone should treat each other nice. And be helpful by cleaning the house.
What Peace Means
By Nefer
Peace means being nice to everyone and everything, including the earth. We could be more peaceful to the earth by putting trash in trash cans, recycle, and using reusable things. Not bullying, hitting or yelling at people would make us seem nicer to them. We shouldn't write or carve on things that don't belong to us. Peace sounds like people talking calmly to each other, and everybody getting along. Peace sounds like everybody getting along, and communicating with each other. People hugging, talking to everyone, being happy is what being peaceful looks like. That's what peace means to me.
For my school to be more peaceful we could all be nicer to each other and, not bully anyone. We could all talk to each other nicely, and not yell. People shouldn't criticize others on how they dress, or what they look like. Kids at the school should be nice to their friend and people who aren't their friends. Doing some of these things would make our school more peaceful.
To keep peace in my family my sisters and I shouldn't fight or yell at each other. When my parents tell us to do something or not to do something we should listen to them and not make them mad. Me and my sisters shouldn't get mad at each other so easily so we don't argue and yell. My family could be a lot more peaceful than it is now.
