This week is "Banned Book Week" and the purpose of it is to try to get books banned from county libraries and school libraries. There is a list of one hundred books that have been banned from school and libraries. I don't agree with all the books on the banned list because I have read a couple of them. I don't agree that those books be banned because when I read them I didn't think that they were all that bad. For example "Speak" which I did read not all that long ago and it was a really good book. In Katherine Schulten's blog she wrote that certain people thought Laurie Halse Andersons book "Speak" was supposedly "softly pornographic". I do not agree with that at all, that book was very appropriate.
In our English class we read an expert of the book "I know why the caged bird sings" by Maya Angelou. I'm not sure why this book is banned but I think that it shouldn't because from what we read it was a good book. I thought it was nice how Mrs. Flowers took time to pay attention to Marguerite. It's weird how it is banned in some school and it is in our English test books. That just goes to show how differently all people think about what is appropriate and what isn't. I think that people should give everyone the option to read everything.
