No Title Given

    By Nora

I think every human being should be able to express themselves through whatever they feel like is meaningful towards them. It shouldn't matter what other people think just because of their beliefs. If it offends them, they just shouldn't look at the person. You are in charge of your own life, no one but your parents should have a say in what you do or not do. I know schools have rules, and I respect some of the rules, but some are just ridiculous. Piercings should definitely not be a problem, as long as ones in inappropriate places are covered.

To me, distractions in school are: when someone acts ridiculously, when someone dresses ridiculously, when someone doesn't necessarily get dressed, when someone dresses as if they don't know how, and maybe what accessories they wear. Piercings can possibly be a distraction if: They look like a tribal piercing, when they're really, really big, and if they're in a place you're not supposed to show at school. A nose piercing can be distracting if it's like the ones they put on bulls through each nostril, but if it's just a stub, it should definitely not be a problem. I'm very glad that The American Civil Liberties Union is suing the school because it is absolutely ridiculous that they would suspend a girl for having a nose piercing. It's not like she's causing violence or being naked. She just has a hole in her nose, with a little fake diamond on it. What's wrong with that?

I really hope the school loses in the lawsuit because they have no right to tell a kid what or what not to wear other than an outfit that is appropriate for school. Especially if it's an accessory that's a form of expression.
